Social Media Is Here to Stay

By

Social media has been around for nearly a decade with no signs of slowing down. Most people, especially millennials, are on our phones constantly; whether we’re checking our email, posting a selfie to Instagram or tweeting about a trending hashtag, most of us have fully integrated social media into our daily lives. Marketers have taken notice and starting implementing social media efforts to reach people where they are: social media.

While there will always be naysayers, for the most part, we all know how marketing has changed with social media. Let’s take a look at a few such instances:

  • Shouting vs. Conversations: with the rise of social media, the power has shifted from the brands to the consumers. No more are the days of shouting to the masses. To be successful on social, consumers expect a conversation with you. They want their questions answered quickly and want human interaction (not an ad shouting at them) and a brand that is passionate
  • Data Mining: social media has made it possible for marketers to get incredibly granular when trying to learn about their audiences. Social media is a great predictor of behavior, shows us what our consumers want and allows us to see who is talking about us. With this kind of power, there’s no reason marketers shouldn’t have data analysts constantly analyzing social media
  • Reputation Management: before social media, customers had to call or email a business to complain. They certainly couldn’t post a negative review on TripAdvisor and inform others to beware. Now, however, just about anyone can let the world know what they think about you. Social media has given marketers the ability to manage these reviews before they cause major problems for the brand
  • I Do Exist!: businesses that are regional or just too small to have national recognition benefit greatly from social media. If don’t correctly, social media can expand a business’s reach and visibility. Create amazing content targeted at an expanded audience, try for a viral campaign—the world is your oyster and social media allows you to reach every corner of that shell

Now What?

You’ve created your social media pages and understand why you’re there, but now what? Learn how to maintain social consistency across your social channels and how to properly manage social media!

  • Social Consistency: consumers need to be able to easily identify your brand. Keeping a consistent message, tone and feel across all your social channels helps streamline this process. For example, would you have a serious tone on your website paired with a sarcastic, humorous tone on social media? No!
  • Social Media Management: this is by far the most important aspect of being successful on social. People want you to share interesting content and engage with them. If you can’t do this, it’s better to avoid social media all together. Need help with this? Black Bear Design’s robust social media management and strategy program can get you there

But There Is So Much to Do

Social media is not for the faint of heart. It requires a lot of attention, witty content and constant analysis. Luckily for all the marketers out there, for every social media channel, there are at least twenty apps to manage it. A few of our favorites include:

  • Hootsuite: this is one of the most affordable and easy-to-use social media management tools in existence. You can set up multiple accounts across most channels, schedule posts and engage with your audience all in one dashboard. It’s a must-have for anyone new to social media
  • Buffer: like Hootsuite, Buffer allows you to schedule content in advance across multiple profiles and channels. However, Buffer is mostly for scheduling and analyzing posts, not engagement. Buffer does allow for more precise scheduling however, which is why it’s another great go-to tool for community managers trying to manage all that content!
  • IFTTT (If This Then That): This one is fairly new to the game, but amazing nonetheless. This automation app allows users to create recipes to automate everything from productivity tasks to social media sharing. We use it for the latter. IFTTT allows you to do anything from automatically posting a tweet or Facebook post when a blog is posted to your site to sharing all Instagram posts to Twitter. Best part? It easily integrates with many social media management tools

We realize that social media is quite the undertaking. Management tools, strategies, engagement…oh my! If you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the work that is social media, Black Bear can help you plan a strategy, optimize it and manage all your channels. You get to be a stellar brand on social media and we get to manage all the fun stuff like content and engagement. Happy pinning, tweeting, posting and sharing!
