Five Tools Everyone in the Marketing Industry Should Be Using

By on 01/25/2017

If you knew there was a tool that could make your job easier and more efficient, wouldn’t you use it? Here at Black Bear, our team has over 100 years of collective experience in the digital marketing world, and as such, we understand what works and what doesn’t.

The team was prompted recently to provide their number one digital marketing tool they simply couldn’t do their job without. We’ve listed them below to shed some light on the inner-workings of an agency, and to tell the stories of these work-life-changing applications!

Adobe Creative Cloud: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign

Ask any design agency in the U.S. what their must-have tool is in the office and 9 times out of 10 they’ll tell you any mixture of the Adobe Creative Cloud apps. The Adobe Creative Cloud allows the user to access Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, among many others. The reason we only list three is because those are our overwhelming consensus picks from the Black Bear team.

Photoshop allows the user to create anything they can imagine in a full-feature design app. Here, the user can enhance photographs, web and mobile app designs, and so much more.

InDesign, the graphic designer’s dream tool. InDesign allows the user to create complete brochures, digital magazines, apps, digital documents, and anything else one could use a page layout tool.

Illustrator is yet another must have tool for every graphic designer. Adobe Illustrator allows the user to create vector images which can be used for client logos, graphics, icons, typography, and even more complex illustrations for mobile, web, and interactive features on websites.

Evernote – the Searchable Brain

The organized note taker, planner, project manager’s dream app. Evernote allows the user to quickly take notes, input images, video, and even shopping lists into shareable forms to be shared with anyone who needs to see it. The greatest thing about Evernote is that it automatically syncs across all your devices, so work can be kept up in real time.

Buffer and HootSuite

hootsuite and buffer

Every social media manager’s best tools. Buffer and Hootsuite have two separate functions that work perfectly in unison.

Buffer is a platform that allows you to fill your social media “queue” all at one time. For instance, you can easily fill up a month or two’s worth of posts in about an hour and schedule them precisely when you want. This saves you the hassle of jumping from website to website when you want to schedule posts for the week/month. You can also monitor the uniformity of your posts across platforms here.

HootSuite, on the other hand, allows you to monitor the activity on your social media profiles side by side. Which is to say, you’d have one column with all your Facebook activity (mentions, wall posts, etc.), and another column with all your Twitter activity. HootSuite is an essential tool for retweeting, reposting, engaging and seeing all your messages in one place.

The great thing about both platforms is the fact that you’ll still have full control over random posts you want to make on your Facebook and Twitter at any time. If you’re at a game or a fundraiser, you can still login to Facebook natively and upload the photo like normal. (We highly recommend creating posts like this every chance you get!)

Google

Google is the leading search engine in the world for a reason: billions of people use it. From the classic Google Search to optimizing your time using Google Docs and Calendars with clients and colleagues, Google is an invaluable tool for your belt.

It was estimated that in 2016 there were approximately 2.1 million Google searches per second. That’s a staggering number considering 3.2 billion people have internet access.

So what do digital marketers use Google for? Well, simply put, for what everyone else uses it for. It’s the fastest way to answer a quick question. You waste little to no time finding what you need thanks to exceptional SEO rankings, and it’s many apps streamline processes for us to use. Google Drive, for instance, allows marketers to work with each other in real-time to deliver the client fast, thorough work.

Google is an absolute must have in a digital marketing agency, or any industry for that matter.

MailChimp

Email still reigns supreme as the leading conversation platform between consumers and businesses. Email automation builds trust and nurtures leads through a consumer’s buying life cycle. In fact, lead nurturing has been shown to increase conversion rates by 200% in some cases. So what do we recommend for email automation tools we can’t live without? MailChimp!

The world’s leading email marketing platform, MailChimp sends marketing emails, automated messages, and targeted campaigns to over 14 million people and businesses around the world. This platform allows marketing teams to create rich content that directly speaks to the consumer they’re targeting without spamming them. Thanks to this, companies not only see a great return by using MailChimp, but your clients see greater conversions as well.

A Great Team

The CEO’s dream tool. It seems like a no-brainer, but can often go overlooked in a world of buzzing new applications. Without a great team working together for the betterment of the client and company, all the apps listed here would be worthless. It takes a cohesive team to deliver award-winning results, and here at Black Bear, we take that very seriously. We use the apps above to produce real results while working seamlessly together to do it quickly, in a bright environment, with deadlines met every time.
