For those tuned into social marketing know: trends in social media, video marketing, and general digital marketing change almost hourly. As marketers, it’s our job to follow the trends our followers adopt and adapt to them immediately. One respondent in Hubspot’s 2017 State of Inbound Marketing Report agrees, “If a company is slow to capture a new mode of communication, it might as well stop the business.”

The 2017 Social Media Report states that live video is the next upcoming trend in visual media. “A significant 61% of marketers plan on using live video services such as Facebook Live and Periscope, and 69% want to learn more about live video.” Further, 48% of marketers are adding YouTube to their distribution channels in the next year. Suffice to say, if you’re not looking into the various forms of video marketing, you need to start. Here are a few of the trends we’re seeing for the world of video in 2017.

Facebook Live

This is a trend we’ve talked about before. Facebook Live not only drives engagement, but it’s favored by the Facebook algorithm. The ability to share real-time experiences with your audience is a major factor in consumer loyalty and lead growth. Facebook even has a special page with a key button on their app so the consumer can watch Facebook Live videos like television. We don’t think Facebook Live is going anywhere for a long, long time.

360 Degree Video

With the rise of virtual and augmented reality, there’s really no surprise that over 25% of people are more willing to watch a 360 video over a static video. And what’s even more impressive is the fact that twice as many people are willing to watch a 360 video through to completion! That’s a pretty impressive feat, considering the average watch time of most videos is around 3-10 seconds. Wouldn’t you prefer to have a 360-degree immersive experience of a potential vacation spot rather than just have a panoramic view? We certainly would.

Influencer Takeover

Utilizing the story feature on many social media platforms has become a wealth of influencer impact. Brands like National Geographic, REI, Tentree, and Vans take part in what’s known as “influencer takeovers.” This is where they give their story for the day over to an influencer of their choosing; perhaps it’s a brand ambassador or a person with a large following. Whoever they choose, they see results in their efforts. In other words, people are watching and they’re always keen on watching their idols.

Supplemental Videos

This trend is not likely to go anywhere soon. Supplemental videos have been proven to boost conversions by up to 43% when posted with text material. We suggest including supplemental videos with your blogs or on your sales page. A great example can be seen on one of the nation’s leading sales coach, Chuck Bauer’s, website, where he expertly includes a video of his services in addition to a full breakdown of what he offers.
